Once again this week, I was sick to my stomach when the news broke that a popular singer "came out." Lance Bass of NSYNC revealed this week that he is gay. He apparently chose not to reveal this before now because he was concerned about the popularity of the band. It is quite ironic that a young man who is gay would soak up the popularity of his band that is such a hit with the young ladies. As a matter of fact, many of the songs that the band sings are songs that deal with a relationship between a young man and a young woman.
Why now? Is it because we have been so conditioned for several years now by the press, the media, and Hollywood that homosexuality is more accepted today than it would have been just a few years ago when NSYNC first hit stardom? Is it because election campaigns will be heating up in the next few months? No one can answer these question except Lance Bass.
One thing is for sure, as conservatives, we need to make our voices heard. We need to be heard concerning the definition of marriage as the union of a natural man to a natural woman. We need to be heard concerning the definition of a family as a husband and wife raising their own biological children and/or children they have adopted.
This should serve as a reminder to those of us who are conservative christians of the importance of family. As parents, God has given us the responsibilty to teach and guide our children in the truth. The truth is that homosexuality is sin. Homosexuality hurts the individual as well as our country. Homosexuality should not be given a place in our society by provision of law.
Let me close by saying that while I oppose homosexuality, I valued the person who is practicing homosexuality. I believe that they are a precious person created by God. The tragedy is that they have bought into a lie. My prayer is that homosexuals who I come in contact with will see Jesus in me.
